The first SteamFest was held at Sheffield in 1994 and it has been held ever since each year on Tasmania’s March long weekend.
It’s the Society’s major fundraiser and is held in conjunction with the following groups and clubs:
- The Tasmanian Tractor Pulling and Vintage Tractor Association
- The Howe Family collection of steam engines and vintage equipment
- The Kentish Lions Club
The weekend features extensive displays of vintage machinery, train rides, traction engines, steam rollers, vintage cars, farm tractors, tractor pulling competitions, demonstrations of farm practices from the steam era – e.g. sheep shearing, threshing, stone crushing etc.- stationary engines, craft displays, bands, entertainment and food stalls.
Over the years many hundreds of photos have been taken at SteamFest and you can see some of them in our Photo Galleries. We also recommend you check out Bruce Hutchison’s excellent collection of photos here and here
