2009 Achievements
Taken from the President’s Report, AGM. 19th September 2009.
- The announcement on the 23rd of May that the Council has entered a contract to purchase the blocks fronting Main Street next to the Railway Station is a major step in the direction of achieving our goal of building a viable tourist operation. The purchase of these blocks will allow the construction of what we have termed the Sheffield Gateway Complex
- The biggest and most successful SteamFest to date.
- The Station Coffee Shop refurbishment thanks to Len and Margaret Dixon and their team. This is a wonderful asset to the Redwater Creek Railway and a necessary stepping stone to Coffee Shop and Sheffield Gateway Complex planned for the area next to the station.
- Bronwyn Rayner’s donation of her collection of Pioneer Australiana. Importantly though, Bronwyn has brought a new focus to our committee on the pioneer village. Bronwyn is fostering the very worthy concept of involving children on our site who struggle with conventional schooling.
- The operation of a successful Car Boot sale and establishing these as a regular event thanks to the enthusiasm of Lisa Jane-Goss and Loren Costello.
- Judy MacKenzie has done a fantastic job of re-invigorating our web site..
- Another train driver - Mike Blake studied for and successfully passed his Boiler Attendants and Reciprocating Engine Certificate – Congratulations Mike!
- The organization has strengthened its community ties with KEENER and the Kentish Garden Club now having interests exploring ways we can work together.
- A planning application has been lodged for stage 1 of the Sheffield Gateway Complex – being an 18 x 20m shed near the BBQ area. !
- The Mens Shed initiative has developed over the last year with the completion of the mural relocation on the side of the locomotive shed and funding granted for the shed construction.
